Dexter T. German Shepherd Dog Senior - Adoption, Rescue for sale in San Juan Bautista, California

Dexter T. is a friendly 10-year-old German Shepherd mix that can be quite playful. He is tan and white but with some black markings around his head and at 60 lbs he is a little smaller than most GSD males. He and another German Shepherd dog, Kea T., were rescued by their owners from a shelter in Ohio around 9 years ago and they have all lived together since then. Their owners are now facing the need to move again however they are not able to take their dogs along. Their owners did manage to avoid placing Dexter and Kea in the S. Californa Shelter system where unintended events can happen due to over-crowding. Their situation was brought to the attention of Thulani Senior German Shepherd Rescue (TSGSR) who were able to rescue the 2 dogs directly just before the family had run out of alternatives.

As you can see in some of Dexter's photos he can be quite playful. He and Kea enjoy each other's company and will sometimes spend part of their day wrestling on the lawn together. Somehow Dexter also seems to be in charge of keeping an eye out for squirrels and would sometimes bark and give chase to let them know that theywere not welcome to sun themselves on HIS lawn. Dexter is friendly with most people but would sometimes give out a bark when he sighted a stranger. I would expect that Dexter was an excellent front door alert dog when unknown visitors (and perhaps the mailman) approach. Dexter does know when to temper his energy however since at his prior home he lived with a couple of young kids and their parents felt both Kea and Dexter interacted really well with the young ones.

When Dexter is not outside exploring with Kea he will often relax indoors. Kea and he are both house-trained and are comfortable being in a Crate when needed. When TSGSR evaluated them the two were very friendly with us even though they had not met us before. Kea did bark but it was more out of excitement and wanting to say hello. At night Dexter and Kea sleep indoors with the family on their doggie beds.

While both dogs do seem to travel well in the car Kea seems to settle down quicker than Dexter... or maybe this is just a case of Dexter wanting to have the last bark.

In their transport to Thulani Central, both dogs were model passengers and alternated between sleeping and quietly looking out the window. Both these senior dogs are healthy and active and would be great walking/exercise partners for you to check out the neighborhood. They seem to do well with other dogs as long as proper introductions are made. Dexter can be a little too interested in new female dogs but quickly adjusts his approach went it is clear it is unwelcome.

Dexter and Kea both have experience being social with other dogs in adoggiedaycare environment.

Kea T. also has her own Bio listing with some of her own pictures.

We are still getting to know Dexter and Kea so we will be continuing to update their bio's.
