Mille T. German Shepherd Dog Senior Female for sale in San Juan Bautista, California

Mille T.'s story
Millie T. is a very sweet and small-sized senior German Shepherd Dog (GSD).  She was owner surrendered to the shelter due to changes in her owners living circumstances.  She was clearly a well-cared for and loved dog, and she misses her prior owner as evidenced by her behavior of constantly looking for them when out on a walk or in the car.

At the shelter, Millie was able to get along with other dogs.   She was even placed in a shared kennel with a year-old lab mix (see photo) who was sometimes overly bouncy with her.  But the two dogs were able to get along fine over the next 10 days that they were kenneled together.   Thank goodness, Millie is a senior dog with good social skills and patience!
Millie takes treats from your hand with a bit more enthusiasm than ideal but listens to reminders such as "be gentle" to slow her approach.   She is a very sensitive dog and can be overly responsive to voice corrections that are made harshly.  At her temporary foster home, she was leery of meeting the man of the house and shied away from him until he crouched down and offered her treats.   Millie may have belonged to a woman previously.
At her initial foster home, she was very good when meeting a resident 9-year old female GSD.  Neither dog was interested in the other except for just checking each other out and then they went their separate ways. Seeing this behavior along with Millie's tolerance of her shelter kennel-mate makes us believe that she would likely do fine in an adoptive home with another dog.   We do recommend that all "new" dog introductions be supervised and initiated at a neutral location, however.
Millie definitely wants human interaction and attention, but she is uncertain with people she does not know.  A few treats, a kind voice, and some gentle petting seem to be enough to win her over though.  It appears that Millie was allowed to share space on a chair or the sofa with her previous owner, as she was not shy about hopping up at her foster home to join the family seating space (see photo).
Millie is now safe and has been rescued by Thulani Senior German Shepherd Rescue (TSGSR).   She did well riding in our transport car and seemed to relax as she realized that she was on a path that would lead her to her next forever home.
We are still getting to know Millie so we will be continuing to update her bio.
